Railway Gazette | Innovation and sustainability in high speed rail

28.11.2023

On the 21st of November, BONATRANS GROUP a.s. participated in the Railway Gazette broadcast on the topic of Innovation and Sustainability in High-Speed Rail.

Our company boasts extensive experience in the development and manufacturing of wheels, axles, and wheelsets for high-speed units. Among our references are iconic high-speed trains such as TGV M, ICE 3 (Velaro) and KTX (HEMU-430X, EMU-320).

The broadcast included a presentation of our innovative products, which aid operators in reducing life cycle costs and the carbon footprint associated with the operation of high-speed vehicles:

-          Innovative BONASTAR® steel grades that increase the mileage of wheels by up to 30%

-          induction-hardened axles, BONAXLE®, significantly enhancing operational safety at high speeds

-          effective noise dampers, BONASILENCE®

-          modern coating systems, BONACOAT®, for long-term protection of wheelsets at high speeds

Experts in high-speed transportation also participated in the broadcast, including Mr. Andy Byford, Senior Vice President for High-Speed Rail Development at Amtrak, Mr. Aleksander Wołowiec, Deputy Director – Rail Strategy at Centralny Port Komunikacyjny (CPK) and Mr. Jorge Rios, Vice President at DB E.C.O. North America.

They are actively involved in projects related to new high-speed rail connections. High-speed rail networks present an interesting alternative to short and medium-haul air travel. They offer passengers a range of benefits, such as direct connections between city centres, significantly lower operating costs, and a markedly reduced carbon footprint.
